BwB Collection Drive TOMORROW NIGHT at Chicago Decompression

Just a reminder for all you out there on the Interwebs:

BwB-Chicago will be doing our 2nd annual fall collection drive to help BwB-Detroit's homeless project TOMORROW NIGHT (11.06.10) @ Chicago Decompression.

Please bring your used, but still useable, Backpacks, Socks, Coats, and other winter necessities to Donate! Every little bit helps! One winter hat, scarf, or pair of mittens can mean the absolute WORLD to the homeless on the streets of Detroit this winter.

A little bit about the homeless project from BwB-Detroit:
As the winter comes in harsh across the midwest landscape everyone starts to feel a chill in their bones, but that chill is much, much colder when you don't have a home to retreat too. BwB-Detroit, led by Doxie, has for the past 4 winters ascended onto the streets to bring supplies, warmth and a whole lot of *LOVE* to the Detroit homeless Community through the backpack project. The backpack project has grown organically over the last few years and has touched the hearts and cold hands of many. Filling backpacks with winter necessities such as blankets, socks, coats, gloves, winter hats, hand-warmers, can openers and non-perishable foods the brave volunteers at BwB-Detroit go out into the streets and hand out the backpacks to those in need.
If you've ever needed an example of DIRECT ACTION helping people- this is it!

Green Office Artistic Challenge: The Fridge Project

Burners Without Borders- Chicago is proud to be supporting and participating in the Green Office Artistic Challenge!

This weekend marked the start of the build days for The Fridge Project part of SPACE Architects contribution to GOAC. The build workshop took place at 3532 Halsted St, a former auto body shop and now a parking garage during Cubs season, that has been generously donated the project. There have also been some donations of paint and materials from Sherwin Williams located at 3311 N Halsted. Thats killer!

Special thanks to Alderman Tom Tunney (44th Ward) and his staff for helping make all these arrangements in the North side for us. Another special thanks to the Chicago Art Department (CAD) and Nathan Peck for helping us recruit artists and produce the build days.
